Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has addressed recent speculation regarding his potential candidacy in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on NTV on Thursday, April 17, Natembeya responded to claims that he would be a running mate to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in a bid to unseat President William Ruto. He dismissed these assertions, stating that such discussions have not taken place.
Natembeya emphasized his own presidential aspirations, which he had previously announced in November 2024.
As the leader of the Democratic Action Party, he expressed his intention to offer a fresh alternative and practical leadership to better the lives of Kenyans.
He underscored his commitment to accountable and proactive leadership, asserting that meaningful change cannot be achieved from a deputy position.
In the broader political landscape, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has received endorsements from both the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and the Jubilee Party as their preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
Additionally, discussions are underway for a potential coalition involving Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Matiang’i, and Natembeya, aiming to present a united front against President Ruto.
Natembeya has also been vocal about the need for unity among Western Kenyan leaders. He has initiated the ‘Tawe Movement,’ focusing on addressing community needs and fostering accountability, rather than forming a new political party.
He believes that without unity, the region’s presidential ambitions will remain unfulfilled.
As the 2027 elections approach, Natembeya’s recent statements clarify his political stance and intentions, setting the stage for potential alliances and a dynamic electoral contest.
