The National Police Service has launched a special security operation, dubbed ‘Operation Ondoa Jangili,’ aimed at dismantling hideouts used by the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) in Marsabit and Isiolo counties, located in the Upper Eastern region.
The operation was officially launched in Marsabit County, with the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli, and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed I. Amin, in attendance.
This high-level operation seeks to target criminal activities that pose a significant threat to national security, including arms smuggling, drug and human trafficking, illegal mining, inciting tribal conflicts, and kidnapping for ransom.

These activities have been particularly prevalent in areas such as Sololo, Moyale, North Horr, and Merti Sub-counties.
Masengeli assured the local communities in these regions that their security was a top priority, urging them to remain calm and cooperate with the security teams operating on the ground.
Also present at the operation’s launch were several key security officials, including GSU Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, Eastern Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich, Eastern Regional Police Commander Charles Naibei, AIG Barasa Lusweti, and Eastern Regional Criminal Investigation Officer Michael K. Sang’, among other regional and county security personnel.
