Detectives have arrested six men believed to be behind a series of violent robberies targeting missionary camps in Kajiado, Machakos, and Makueni counties.
The suspects were tracked down after their latest attack on the Korean Mission Camp (MCK) in Elerai, Mashuuru Sub-County, where a watchman lost his life.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), two suspects Muoki Mulee and Ambrose Mutuku were arrested in Kitengela and near Machakos Junction. The other four, Dominic Moenga Mwambi, Joseph Mamai, Gideon Nyaga Njeri, and Alex Mwaura Waweru, were captured in Kantafu, Matungulu Sub-County.
DCI said the gang disguised themselves in police uniforms and used crude weapons to stage the attacks. They have also been linked to similar robberies in Kimana, Mashuuru, and Wote.
Police recovered police jungle fatigues, believed to have been used in the raids, and KSh49,000 in cash from Ambrose’s home in Kitulu village, Machakos County. Investigations further revealed that both Muoki and Ambrose had been released from Machakos Prison in December 2024.
Three vehicles that were used in the robberies were also impounded. The suspects remain in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
