The Government Delivery Unit (GDU) has issued a statement following the reported resignation of Peter Mbae as the head of the Government Delivery Services (GDS).

In his resignation letter dated January 9, and addressed to Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Mbae cited unresolved issues and poor working conditions.

However, GDU dismissed the purported resignation, saying Mbae ceased being an employee of GDS in July 2024 following the dissolution of the Cabinet.

It clarified that his tenure at the GDS was tied to the portfolio of the then Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Moses Kuria.

"It is therefore misleading and inaccurate to portray his departure as a resignation occurring in January 2025. A formal communication with regards to the end of his contract was made to him on the 24th of July 2024 by the then Principal Secretary in charge of the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management," GDS said.

Lee Kyonze took over Mbae’s position in an acting capacity.

"Mr Lee Kyonze, OGW was appointed in an acting capacity as Head of Government Delivery Unit on the 12th of July of 2024. Dr. Mbae cannot therefore purport to resign from a position that he does not hold," GDU added.
