Nairobi police have announced new traffic rules for motorists before the African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarterfinals this Friday, 22nd August 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The announcement states that parts of the Thika Superhighway will experience temporary diversions and closures to reduce traffic around the stadium.
Those heading out of the city center to Ruiru, Juja, and Thika should take Kiambu Road via Exit 4, where police will have a roadblock at Muthaiga.
Those taking the Thika Superhighway towards Mwiki should use the Ruaka–Baba Ndogo–Lucky Summer–Nairobi River–Mwiki route.
To motorists from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru headed to the CBD, police have directed them to use either the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, with another roadblock at the Ruiru Interchange.
To motorists headed from Githurai to town, they are asked to use the Githurai 44–Kiambu Road route.
Football fans going to Kasarani to watch the Harambee Stars face Madagascar will also be limited. Without a vehicle access pass, one would only be allowed to use Exit 7 and Exit 8 service lanes.
The police say more officers will be on ground to direct the traffic and caution that anyone who violates traffic rules will be dealt with.
“National Police Service calls on all motorists to adhere to on-duty officers for smooth movement,” the statement added.
