The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, has commissioned the construction of the seventh sports academy under the government’s ambitious plan to establish 37 Constituency Sports Academies across the country.

The newly launched academy will be located at Friends School Bokoli Boys High School in Webuye West Constituency, Bungoma County.

This initiative stems from the government’s Ksh 1.7 billion allocation in December 2024 for the development of the pilot sports academies, which are expected to be completed by 2027.

The academies aim to nurture grassroots talent and provide structured sports training and mentorship for young athletes.

The constituencies selected for this first phase of the program include:

Mwala, Bomet East, Ugenya, Nandi Hills, Teso South, Keiyo North, Kiharu, Suba South, Mogotio, Turbo, Kasarani, Aldai, Marakwet West, Ikolomani, Budalangi, Hamisi, Yatta, Kabuchai, Nambale, Matungulu, Webuye West, Mwingi West, Thika Town, Isiolo Town, Embakasi Central, Kitui East, Keiyo South, Moyale, Turkana North, Turbaj, Marakwet East, Kabete, Mandera, and Kandara.

Construction officially commenced in mid-April 2025, with CS Mvurya already presiding over groundbreaking ceremonies at several sites, including:

Magunga Primary School, Suba South Constituency, Homa Bay County (groundbreaking in early May 2025), Taru Secondary School, Kinango Constituency, Kwale County (construction scheduled for completion within five months from April 18, 2025) and Matuga Girls Secondary School, Matuga Constituency, Kwale County.

The nationwide project represents a significant investment in Kenya’s youth and sporting future, with each academy expected to serve as a center of excellence in athletic training, education, and talent development.
