The race to fill the Mbeere North parliamentary seat is gaining momentum, with political parties beginning to position themselves ahead of the anticipated by-election.

The Devolution Empowerment Party, popularly known as the BUS Party, has already unveiled its candidate for the contest.

Speaking during a press briefing, BUS Party chairman Lenny Kivuti expressed strong confidence that the party would clinch the seat, emphasizing the party’s commitment to grassroots mobilization.

“Our focus is on building a strong grassroots network, expanding membership, and promoting political education across counties as we gear up for the 2027 general elections,” Kivuti said.

The Mbeere North seat fell vacant following the appointment of former MP Geoffrey Ruku to the Cabinet. Ruku had won the seat in the 2022 general election under the Democratic Party (DP) ticket.

While the official date for the by-election is yet to be announced, the unfolding political activity signals a highly competitive race. The BUS Party’s early move underscores its intent to grow its influence not just in Mbeere North but also nationally, ahead of the next general election cycle.
