Harambee Stars forward Job Ochieng etched his name into football history with a remarkable performance for La Real on Monday night.
The 23-year-old scored his first La Liga goal and provided two assists to guide Real Sociedad to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Elche.
Ochieng became only the second Kenyan to score in La Liga, following Michael Olunga’s feat in 2018.
The match at the Martinez Valero Stadium marked Ochieng’s moment of brilliance, taking the 11th minute to make history as from the visitors’ first corner, which was cleared towards Carlos Soler, the Spanish forward.
Barely thirty minutes later, his rentless pressing forced a defensive error, allowing him to set up Yangel Herrera, taking the advantage for Sociedad’s second goal. Elche clawed back to level the score at 2-2.
Sociedad appeared to have extended their lead to 3-0 in the 62nd minute when Sucic finished a counterattack. However, the goal was ruled out after the review identified a handball in the build-up.
He became the youngest Real Sociedad player to be directly involved in three goals in a single La Liga match since Alexander Isak, who achieved the feat against Alaves in February 2021 at 21 years.
