Labor and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has issued a warning to Kenyans who recently attended job interviews for Qatari state employment, urging them to be cautious of scammers.
In a statement, Mutua clarified that only successful candidates will be notified via phone calls, and not through SMS, as previously suggested by misleading sources.
“Appointment letters will be available for collection only at the Kenya International Convention Center (KICC),” said Mutua. “Security agencies are actively pursuing those behind the fraudulent messages, which are designed to deceive Kenyans and extort money.”
This warning follows a series of interviews conducted for Qatari state jobs at KICC and Kabete National Polytechnic, which attracted thousands of hopeful applicants seeking positions in hospitality, service, construction, and technical sectors.
The interviews were held in partnership with Qatari employers, aiming to fill roles in industries such as nursing, hotel maintenance, cooking, and construction.
Mutua also reminded candidates that only those who registered for specific job roles will be allowed entry, and encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the duties associated with their positions.
The recruitment initiative, part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to create international employment opportunities for Kenyans, is aligned with a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kenya and Qatar.
The agreement aims to boost the number of Kenyan workers in Qatar from 67,000 to between 200,000 and 300,000 over the coming years.
Mutua reassured the public that the recruitment process will adhere to fair employment practices, with the Ministry closely monitoring the Qatari partner to ensure all procedures meet high standards.
