The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 5,690 job openings for school administrators, including positions for principals, deputy principals, headteachers, and deputy headteachers.
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia stated that the commission seeks 755 principals at Grade D3 and T-scale 13, along with 816 deputy principals III at Grade D1 and T-scale 11.
Additionally, TSC is looking to fill 1,208 headteacher roles at Grade C5 and T-scale 10, as well as 2,911 deputy headteacher positions at Grade C4 and T-scale 9.
Macharia advised qualified candidates to submit their applications online via the TSC portal (www.teachersonline.go.ke) by November 18, 2024, at midnight.
She emphasized that manual applications would not be accepted and clarified that successful candidates would be placed in areas where vacancies are available.
This recruitment follows an earlier advertisement for 46,000 teaching roles, which included 6,000 positions for primary schools, 39,550 for junior secondary schools, and 450 for senior secondary schools.
These roles, on permanent and pensionable terms starting January 2025, are supported by Sh13.4 billion in funding from the Treasury.
TSC required that applicants for primary school positions hold at least a P1 certificate, while those applying for junior or senior secondary school roles must have a diploma in education.
Following this announcement, TSC received a substantial 314,117 applications between October 1 and 8, 2024. Of these, 93,646 applications were for primary school posts, 144,177 for junior secondary school posts, and 76,294 for senior secondary school roles.
In her address to the Parliamentary Education Committee, Macharia disclosed that the government allocated Sh1 billion for teacher promotions in the 2024/2025 financial year to support TSC’s mission of advancing education quality and leadership.
