Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed allegations of political interference in the reported withdrawal of security officers assigned to former Attorney General and Cabinet Secretary, Justin Muturi.
Murkomen stated that his office had not received any formal complaint from Muturi regarding the matter, and clarified that such decisions fall under the jurisdiction of the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja.“That is a simple and small matter that should be handled by the IG. If it’s escalated to me, I will address it as per the law,” said Murkomen.
He emphasized that scaling down security for former public officials is standard procedure once they leave office. “We scale down security assigned to public officers once they vacate office. It’s normal and it applies to all, even me, if I leave office,” he explained.
The CS further insisted that the security sector operates independently and is guided strictly by the law, not politics. “Security officers operate within the law and are not influenced by politics,” he affirmed.
Murkomen’s remarks come amid growing public speculation over the status of Muturi’s security detail and whether the move was politically motivated.
