Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has come to the defense of President William Ruto following public criticism over the President’s recent remarks on abductions.

Speaking during his 13th Jukwaa La Usalama tour in Marsabit County, Murkomen clarified that President Ruto’s comments were misunderstood and misrepresented.

The President had stated that his administration would ensure no more abductions occur in the country — a remark that sparked backlash from various quarters, with some interpreting it as an admission of government involvement in past abductions.“Many people misunderstood the President.

His remarks were twisted,” Murkomen said. “The President was simply stating the government position — that it will ensure no abductions happen.”He further explained that committing to end abductions does not imply state complicity. “Stopping it doesn’t mean we were the ones doing it. When I say, for instance, that we have stopped drug trafficking, does it mean we were involved? No,” he stated.

Murkomen reiterated that the government is not engaged in abductions, affirming that it is the state’s duty to eradicate crime in all its forms.“The President confirmed what I have been saying all along — that the Government is not in the business of abductions,” he said.

The CS was accompanied during the Marsabit tour by Governor Mohamud Ali, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton, and North Horr MP Wario Guyo.

The Jukwaa La Usalama forums aim to enhance community policing and improve security dialogue between residents and national security agencies.
