President William Ruto has directed the management of different universities and colleges across the country to allow students with fee arrears to sit for their end-of-semester exams.
President Ruto noted that some setbacks, including litigation, have disrupted the implementation of the student-centred Higher Education Financing Model, delaying the disbursement of the loans to students.
The head of state asked the universities to exercise patience and allow the students to sit for the exams while awaiting the resumption of full disbursements once the court provides direction on the matter.
"As we navigate the changes brought about by the transition to the student-centred Higher Education Financing Model, I urge universities to exercise patience and understanding with students.
This spirit of humane consideration is especially critical given the additional challenge posed by litigation, which could disrupt the implementation of the model. Therefore, I appeal to universities to allow students to sit for their end-of-semester examinations while awaiting the resumption of full disbursements once the court," said Ruto.
The president made the directive while gracing Scott Christian University’s 59th graduation ceremony on Friday, February 6.
