South Africa is celebrating a moment of pride and triumph as Romanda Hombir has been crowned the Miss World 2026 Africa Head-to-Head Challenge winner, securing her place among the global Top 40 contestants.
Romanda emerged victorious after competing against the continent’s top finalists: Nigeria Soye Karibi George, Kenya Trizah Muhenje Akala, Zambia’s Dr. Adah Mushibi and Eritrea’s Snit Habteab Tewoldemedhin.
By winning the African Head-to-Head challenge, she earned a direct spot in the Miss World Top 40, a coveted position that places her firmly in contention for the global crown.
Her win was marked by an emotional speech that resonated on stage and opened up about her health journey.
“Opening up about my health struggles was very difficult because there’s a lot of shame that comes from being sick, especially in a society that sees women as weak,” Romanda said.
Beyond the pageant, she challenges societal perceptions of women, illness and strength, offering a narrative empowerment that resonates with young women in breaking the stigma, redefining beauty and showing vulnerability can be a source of power.
