President William Ruto has congratulated Team Kenya after the country’s strong showing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Kenya finished 12th overall with 12 medals comprising three gold, four silver and five bronze.
In a statement shared on his X account, Ruto praised the athletes for representing the country with distinction on the global stage.
“We are proud of Team Kenya for an outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland,” the President said.
Ruto singled out gold medallists Edmund Serem, Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang and Faith Cherotich for their victories in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, men’s 5,000m and women’s 3,000m steeplechase respectively.
He also recognised silver medallists Stephen Ndangiri Kihu, Simon Kiprop Koech, Diana Wanza and Lilian Odira.
The President further hailed bronze medallists Leonard Kipkemoi Bett, Wyclife Kinyamal, Timothy Cheruiyot, Irene Jepkemboi and Joshua Amunga Mboya for their performances.
“We celebrate your outstanding achievements and thank you for flying the Kenyan flag high. Asanteni sana,” Ruto added.
Athletics once again delivered the bulk of Kenya’s medals, underlining the country’s dominance in middle and long distance races at the Commonwealth Games.
One of the highlights came in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, where Kenya swept the podium. Edmund Serem won gold, Simon Kiprop Koech claimed silver while Leonard Kipkemoi Bett took bronze.
Faith Cherotich also made history after winning the women’s 3,000m steeplechase in a new Commonwealth Games record.
The performance capped another successful campaign for Team Kenya as the athletes maintained the country’s reputation as one of the Commonwealth’s athletics powerhouses.
