The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over investigations into the alleged abduction of Jimmy Mutava, saying detectives are pursuing several persons of interest to establish what happened.
In a statement on Sunday, the DCI said its Anti Abduction Unit assumed control of the probe after the incident was reported at Mlolongo Police Station on July 27.
The agency said investigations are ongoing as detectives piece together the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction.
“Investigations are currently underway, with detectives pursuing several persons of interest as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported incident,” the DCI said.
The investigative agency did not disclose the identities of the persons of interest or reveal how far the probe had progressed.
However, it assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations continue.
“The DCI will keep the public informed of significant developments as the investigations progress,” the statement added.
The agency also appealed to members of the public with information that could help the investigation to come forward.
It urged anyone with credible information to report it through its toll free Fichua Kwa DCI hotline or via its official WhatsApp number, assuring that all reports would be treated with strict confidence.
The latest update comes days after the alleged abduction of Mutava was reported at Mlolongo Police Station, with the case attracting public attention amid growing scrutiny over reported disappearances and abduction claims in the country.
Detectives are expected to record more statements and analyse available evidence as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
