President William Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor, Moses Kuria, has publicly welcomed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s return to the helm of the Jubilee Party, describing it as a timely development for the country’s political stability.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Kuria expressed optimism that Uhuru’s renewed leadership of the former ruling party could provide a unifying force amid growing political polarization in the country.
“Congratulations, my senior brother, President Uhuru Kenyatta, for winning back control of the Jubilee Party,” Kuria wrote. “At a time when there is a competition to burn Kenya through escalation, emotions, and divisions, the Jubilee Party under your stewardship has a major role to play in keeping Kenya safe. The future is luminous.”
Kuria’s remarks followed a landmark ruling earlier in the day, in which the High Court upheld the resolutions of Jubilee’s Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) held in May 2023.
The ruling confirmed Uhuru as the legitimate party leader, along with key allies Saitoti Torome as National Chairman and Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary-General.
The judgment effectively ended a prolonged internal leadership battle that had seen a rival faction—led by EALA MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege—lay claim to the party’s leadership. Chege had even declared herself party leader at the height of the dispute.
Legal momentum shifted in Uhuru’s favor after former Chairman Nelson Dzuya withdrew support from the Kega faction and endorsed the legitimacy of the 2023 SNDC decisions through a court-filed consent.
Kuria, who has often been sharply critical of opposition figures, struck a notably conciliatory tone in his message, emphasizing the need for political actors to play constructive roles during turbulent times.
