Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Eng. Eric Mugaa has held talks with the leadership of two regional water agencies on the progress of water and sanitation projects across seven Kenyan counties.
Mugaa held a morning briefing with Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) CEO Eng. Joseph Kamau and Tanathi Water Works Development Agency (TAWWDA) CEO Sammy Naporos, alongside their respective technical teams.
The meeting focused on the progress of water and sanitation projects in Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos and Kitui counties.
A key focus was the Northern Collector Tunnel bulk water system operated by AWWDA, which supplies water to Nairobi Water.
“The two agencies benefit from the Northern Collector Tunnel Bulk Water system operated by AWWDA which at optimum condition supplies 140 million litres to Nairobi Water every day. Nairobi Water then transmits about 15 million litres to the counties of Machakos and Kajiado including EPZ A which are under the jurisdiction of TAWWDA,”statement read.
According to Mugaa, the system can supply up to 140 million litres of water to Nairobi Water daily when operating at optimum capacity.

The Cabinet Secretary said the Ministry is committed to accelerating the implementation of water projects across the country to improve service delivery to Kenyans.
