Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to address land grabbing and the alleged encroachment of Maa community ancestral land if he returns to government after the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua made the remarks while attending a Maa Community Cultural Evening at Pullman City in Spokane, Washington, where he met members of the Maa diaspora.
He said the Maa community had preserved its culture and traditions for generations, describing them as central to the community’s identity, spiritual heritage and livelihood.
According to Gachagua, members of the Maa diaspora expressed frustration over what they described as continued encroachment and grabbing of ancestral land in Kenya.
He assured them that under the next government he would help form, Maa ancestral land would be returned to its rightful owners and those responsible for land grabbing would face the law.
“There will be no sacred cows,” Gachagua said.
He said the Maa community deserved dignity, respect and justice, linking the protection of ancestral land to the preservation of the community’s cultural identity.
