Harambee Starlets secured a place in the FIFA Women’s Series 2026 final after a confident 2-0 win over India women’s national football team at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.
Kenya made a fast start, scoring within two minutes through Martha Amunyolet, who capitalised on a rebound to give the hosts an early lead. The team maintained control for most of the first half, keeping India on the back foot despite a few attempts on goal.
Kenya extended their advantage in the second half when Terry Engesha finished off a well-timed through ball in the 57th minute. India struggled to mount a meaningful response, with the Kenyan side dictating play and creating more chances that could have increased the scoreline. Late substitutions from India failed to shift momentum, as Kenya’s defence remained solid to secure the win.
The victory sets up a final clash against Australia women’s national football team, who advanced after a dominant 5-0 win over Malawi women’s national football team. Ahead of the final scheduled for April 15, President William Ruto praised the Starlets.
“Congratulations Harambee Starlets on your remarkable victory against India, securing a place in the final of the FIFA Women’s Series. You have made the nation proud,” Ruto said.
“As you head to the final, know that the entire nation stands firmly behind you, united in support and confident in your ability to win the tournament,” he added.
