Kenya set to mark a milestone in the global gaming industry as Global Esports Federation (GEF) President Sir Paul J. Foster is scheduled to visit the country on Sunday, September 6, for the development of the game in Kenya, boosting for international esports.
Foster is expected for a four-day official visit, with Esports Kenya Federation President Ronny Lusigi confirming that the high-level engagement offers an opportunity to advance in the global esports system.
“Sir Paul’s visit presents an important opportunity to advance discussions around Kenya’s esports events hosting capacity, talent development pathways and long-term collaborations between the Global Esports Federation and Kenyan stakeholders across the government, academia and the private sector,” Lusigi said.
For local gamers, the visit is a moment of validation, as communities that have long nurtured grassroots tournaments and online competitions have the opportunity to be recognized at the international level.
Foster is expected to hold a high-level government meeting, address university students at the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA), attend GEFCon Nairobi at Weston Hotel, participate in a media roundtable and visit grassroots esports facilities.
GEFCon Nairobi will serve as platform for stakeholders, industry leaders, brands, policymakers, academics and other partners to discuss the growth and development of esports in Kenya and across the African continent.
He will be accompanied by Tommy Sithole, Vice President of the Global Esports Federation and President of the African Esports Development Federation, along with Mr. Thanos Karagrounas Chief Impact Officer of the Global Esports Federation.
