Mombasa County’s Department of Trade, Tourism, and Culture has launched a new football tournament called ‘Cheza Ball Epuka Mihadarati’ aimed at addressing the growing issue of drug abuse.

The tournament, which kicked off on Sunday, will run until December 31st.

Organized in collaboration with the Mombasa County Football Association (MCFA), which oversees local tournaments and leagues, the department is responsible for managing and ensuring the smooth execution of the event.

Six teams, each representing one of Mombasa County’s constituencies, have been formed. Each sub-county has selected 25 top players, with five coaches overseeing the combined teams.

The goal is to keep youth engaged in positive activities throughout the holiday season.

The tournament’s primary objective is to shield young people from the dangers of drug abuse, a growing concern in the community.

The initiative is part of Mombasa County’s ongoing efforts to combat the rise of drug use among the youth.

“If we allow our youth to remain idle during this holiday period, the chances of them turning to drug abuse increase. We are grateful to the department for this initiative, which will help keep the youth active and safe,” said Goshi Alliy, Chairman of MCFA.

Alliy also urged Mombasa residents to attend the matches and show their support for the teams as they compete for a drug-free society.

The tournament is divided into two groups: Group A consists of Likoni, Kisauni, and Changamwe, while Group B includes Jomvu, Nyali, and Mvita.
