Kenya’s preparations for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) have reached a significant milestone, with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) holding its first official meeting yesterday.
This gathering marked the beginning of intensified efforts as the country moves closer to hosting the event.
Following the meeting, an inspection of Nyayo National Stadium was conducted, led by Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum, FKF President Hussein Mohammed, and LOC Chair Nicholas Musonye.
They were joined by Federation Deputy President McDonald Mariga, FKF NEC members Dabar Ahmedqadar (North Eastern), Robert Macharia (Central), FKF CEO Patrick Korir, and FKF Competitions Officer Natasha Nyakundi, highlighting the federation’s unified commitment to ensuring the event’s success.
This meeting and inspection signaled that preparations for CHAN 2025 are now in full swing, with Kenya set to co-host the tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania from February 1–28, 2025.
The event will also serve as a precursor to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be jointly hosted by the East African trio.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed praised the government’s efforts in infrastructure development.
“First, I want to congratulate the government for the incredible work being done at all the sites as we prepare for CHAN, which is fast approaching,” he said.
Sports PS Peter Tum emphasized the importance of strategic planning and the role of technical working groups.
“Today, we met to ensure the technical working groups understand their roles and responsibilities. We are on track with our timeline and, by January, we will be ready to host,” he confirmed.
LOC Chair Nicholas Musonye expressed confidence in Kenya’s readiness. “We are working tirelessly and will deliver on our mandate. I assure everyone that we are going to host CHAN successfully,” he stated.
With just over a month remaining before the tournament begins, Kenya is leaving no stone unturned in meeting the infrastructural and logistical demands of hosting this prestigious event.
As the nation prepares for CHAN 2025, all eyes are on the next crucial steps toward ensuring a successful tournament.
