Former Kenyan rugby player and former National Football League (NFL) linebacker Daniel Adongo has been deported to Kenya by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after it was stated that he overstayed his visa.
According to ICE and US Immigration, Adongo was removed from the US on June 20 after the immigration ordered his removal in March due to his visa has expiring in 2016.
He was found guilty of offenses that compounded his immigration violations of criminal mischief felony intimidation, battery and disorderly conduct. Adongo was sentenced to one year in jail following his criminal mischief conviction involving property damage.
Adongo rose to fame as the first Kenyan to play in the NFL, signing with the Indianapolis Colts in 2013. He was recruited as a linebacker and later transitioned to special teams.
He represented Kenya in rugby and was regarded as one of the country’s promising athletes before joining the Indianapolis Colts in United States.
The ICE have committed to enforce US immigration laws, saying individuals with criminal convictions remain a priority for immigration enforcement.
