The Ministry of Health is in discussions with global pharmaceutical firm Johnson & Johnson to strengthen healthcare delivery in Kenya, with a focus on mental health, community health and nursing
Ministry officials on Monday met with Johnson & Johnson Global Health Equity representatives and other partners that work in mental health and community health to discuss possible areas of collaboration.
It topped its agenda with strengthening frontline healthcare by providing nurses with technical clinical skills and leadership.
The ministry explained that the initiative is to enable nurses and community health promoters to become more capable of serving patients, especially at the community level.
“The concept is to make sure that relations between health workers and communities are strengthened so that no one is left behind,” a ministry official said.
Negotiations also included expanding mental healthcare services across the country and enhancing the contribution of community health systems to universal health coverage (UHC).
Successful, the partnership will allow the government to implement its vision of offering accessible, affordable, and quality health care to all Kenyans.
