Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen have moved to block a petition seeking their removal from the Roll of Advocates, describing the move as premature and lacking procedural fairness.

Through their lawyer, Cecil Miller, the two senior government officials have written to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), demanding to be furnished with a formal copy of the complaint lodged against them to allow for an adequate response.

“We have been retained to represent the Deputy President, Prof Kithure Abraham Kindiki, and Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen… Kindly provide us with copies of the complaint,” reads part of the letter dated July 15 addressed to the LSK.

The complaint, filed in June by Nairobi-based advocate Kepha Ojijo, accuses the two leaders of gross misconduct and breach of the Advocates’ Code of Conduct.

Ojijo cites their alleged role in violent police crackdowns during the 2024 and 2025 Gen Z protests, claiming their actions violated the oath they took as lawyers to uphold justice and human rights.

The petition alleges that under their leadership in powerful security and interior dockets, state forces conducted operations that resulted in killings, injuries, abductions, and enforced disappearances of young protesters.

Lawyers admitted to the Roll of Advocates are required to swear before the Chief Justice to uphold the Constitution and protect justice at all times — an oath the petitioner claims both Kindiki and Murkomen have contravened.

The two leaders say they only learned of the petition through social media reports and are now seeking official documentation to formally respond through legal channels.
