The burial of 26 people who died in a tragic road accident in Nyakach will be held on Saturday, August 16, at Koguta village.
According to the burial committee chair, Vincent Kodera, the government has taken over the entire programme, covering mortuary bills, coffins, transport, and medical expenses for the 26 survivors admitted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
A requiem mass is scheduled for Thursday at Naki AIC Church, after which the bodies will be moved to Koguta on Friday for a night vigil. The funeral service will take place at Naki Primary School before families proceed to individual burials.
While praising the government’s support, Kodera said the committee has opened a KCB pay bill number (8010747) to raise funds for the affected families.
“The government is meeting burial and medical costs, but the situation here is dire. Some homes have been wiped out completely, leaving children without parents,” he said.
South East Nyakach MCA Lumumba Owade revealed that the fund had received Sh1 million from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and urged well-wishers to contribute.
