Sports CS Salim Mvurya launching the construction of Sports Academy in Suba-South Constituency.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on Wednesday presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ksh 55 million Talent and Sports Academy in Suba-South Constituency.

The ambitious project aims to harness and monetize local talent while improving livelihoods through a structured system of talent identification, scouting, and development, with the goal of positioning Kenyan athletes on the global stage.

The academy will feature an eight-lane athletics track, football, basketball, and netball pitches, two changing rooms, a borehole and water facilities, and a social hall—signaling a major infrastructure boost for the local community and surrounding region.

CS Mvurya instructed the project contractor to prioritize hiring local residents during implementation, emphasizing the academy’s potential to generate not only sporting success but also economic empowerment.

“This project will not only elevate our youth onto global sports platforms but also economically empower local communities,” Mvurya said.

Speaking alongside Suba South MP Kalori Omondi during the commissioning of NG-CDF projects in the area, the CS commended the MP’s dedication to advancing development initiatives in the constituency.

He also applauded the residents of Suba-South for embracing the government’s inclusive development agenda and stressed that unity and participation in national programs are key to achieving impactful progress.

In a political swipe at the opposition, Mvurya urged locals to dismiss divisive rhetoric, claiming it only seeks to undermine national cohesion.

He also provided an update on the Sh700 million Raila Odinga International Stadium, stating that construction is 90% complete and the facility will be handed over in two weeks—just in time for the Madaraka Day celebrations.
