President William Ruto has nominated Erastus Edung Ethekon to serve as the chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In the same announcement, the President named Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, along with Moses Mukhwana, Mary Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Aduol, and Fahima Abdallah as commissioners to the electoral body.
Once approved by the Parliament, Ethekon will replace the late former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati who died in February this year.
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei made the announcement in a press release on Thursday evening, after Ruto received the report of the IEBC Selection Panel two days ago.
“In accordance with our supreme law, the nominations have been transmitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament, in accordance with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act as well as the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (Chapter 7F, Laws of Kenya),” stated Koskei.
Adding; “In recognition of the indispensable role of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as one of the cornerstone institutions of our democracy and a custodian of electoral management, His Excellency the President has urged the National Assembly to prioritize the consideration of these nominations.”
