Authorities in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, have launched a manhunt for a Burundian national suspected of running an illegal cannabis farm in the area.

Acting on a tip-off from concerned residents, police uncovered a half-acre plot in the Kidfarmaco area that was secretly cultivating commercial-grade cannabis sativa.According to investigators, the suspects had disguised their operation by planting maize and vegetables near the entrance to avoid detection.

The farm was reportedly well-maintained, with mature cannabis plants hidden further inside the plot.Kikuyu Deputy Commissioner Charles Laboso confirmed the discovery, warning landowners to remain vigilant and ensure their undeveloped properties are not misused for illegal activities.”We urge property owners to regularly inspect their land.

Criminals are exploiting unoccupied plots for illegal farming and other unlawful activities,” Laboso said.Shocked residents expressed concern over the revelation, with many unaware that such an operation was taking place in their neighborhood.

They are now calling for a security crackdown on all unoccupied plots, arguing that abandoned properties have increasingly become hideouts for criminal gangs.

Police have launched further investigations to trace the main suspect and any accomplices involved in the illegal trade. Authorities have also assured residents of increased patrols to curb similar activities in the region.
