A new road safety initiative has been launched at Kilimani Primary School to improve infrastructure and enhance the safety of schoolchildren. The Safe-to-School project, spearheaded by Automobile Kenya in collaboration with the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), aims to upgrade road safety features around learning institutions.

Under the program, critical infrastructure improvements such as zebra crossings, speed bumps, sidewalks with protective bollards, and school zone signage will be implemented.

The project will also include repainting road markings and providing road safety training for students and school marshals.Kilimani Primary School, which has 1,600 students, is the latest beneficiary of the initiative.

A similar exercise was successfully conducted at Kayole Primary School last year, with positive results in improving pedestrian safety.

Speaking during the launch, representatives from Automobile Kenya and KURA emphasized the importance of ensuring children have a safe passage to school, reducing the risk of road accidents.

The organizations plan to replicate the project across the country to safeguard more school zones. The initiative comes amid growing concerns over road safety, particularly for young pedestrians in urban areas. Authorities are urging motorists to observe traffic rules near schools and support efforts to create safer roads for children.
