The family of Margaret Nduta, who is facing execution in Vietnam after being found guilty of drug trafficking, has expressed immense gratitude to President William Ruto for intervening in the case.

Nduta, who was sentenced to death on Thursday, March 6, was scheduled to be hanged on Monday, March 17, but President Ruto’s government negotiation saw the execution suspended.

"Thank you very much President Ruto because my child was not killed. I now ask that she be brought back to Kenya," said Nduta's mother, Purity Wangari.

Nduta was arrested in 2023 upon arrival at an airport in Vietnam’s capital, where authorities found her in possession of 2kgs of cocaine.

However, her family maintains that she was framed by a man named John Njoroge.

The government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and consulate in Thailand, has been engaging in diplomatic negotiations to secure a reprieve for Nduta.
