The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is demanding a thorough and independent investigation into the mysterious death of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang, who died while in police custody at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.

Ojwang, who was reportedly arrested on Saturday afternoon in Homa Bay County over a social media post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, died under unclear circumstances after being transferred to Nairobi.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), Ojwang also identified as Albert Omondi—sustained fatal injuries after allegedly hitting his head on the cell wall. He was later rushed to Mbagathi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

However, his family has refuted the police account, questioning the nature of the injuries on his body. “The claims made by police are inconsistent with what we saw,” said a family member who had gone to the Central Police Station on Sunday morning to follow up on the case.

They were shocked to learn of his death, and later found his body at City Mortuary, where it had been taken at around 2 a.m. the same day.

LSK President Faith Odhiambo has since issued a strong statement, calling for an immediate and impartial investigation into Ojwang’s death. “We are deeply concerned about the growing trend of enforced disappearances and suspicious deaths involving security agencies.

The public deserves answers,” she said.Ojwang’s father, from whose home he was reportedly taken by police, had hoped to reunite with his son alive. Instead, he now joins a growing number of Kenyan families grappling with pain and unanswered questions following fatal encounters with law enforcement.

The incident has sparked outrage online and renewed concerns over police brutality and accountability in Kenya. Civil rights activists and online users are calling for justice

As pressure mounts, Kenyans await the outcome of investigations—hoping for transparency in a time of growing insecurity and diminishing public trust in state institutions.
