The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is demanding full transparency from Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja following the mysterious death of blogger Albert Ojwang’ in police custody.

Speaking to the press on Monday, LSK President Faith Odhiambo urged the IG to reveal the names of officers interdicted over the incident, including those who transported Ojwang’ from Homa Bay to Nairobi.

“Why has he not named the officers? Who picked Ojwang’? Are they among those interdicted?” she questioned. “Without giving Kenyans the names, this looks like public relations meant to cool down the anger.”

Ojwang’, arrested over an alleged defamation complaint by Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, was transferred from Homa Bay and later found critically injured in a Central Police Station cell in Nairobi. He died shortly after.

Odhiambo condemned the handling of the case, calling it a reflection of systemic failures in the National Police Service. “This was not an isolated incident. It shows deeper problems within the system,” she said.

Outside City Mortuary, protesters joined by activists demanded justice, with Kenya School of Law President Joshua Okayo asking why the blogger was transported over 400 kilometres for an offence that could have been handled in Homa Bay.

“The OCS of Central Police, Mr. Talam, must be the first suspect. He should be arrested and charged,” said Okayo.

Government pathologists are expected to perform an autopsy on Ojwang’s body at 2pm on Monday.
