The Kenya Lionesses, the national women’s rugby sevens team, will be looking to build on their success as they head into the second leg of the Sevens Challenger Series in Cape Town, South Africa.

Having won the first leg last weekend, the Lionesses will face Uganda and Belgium in Pool A during the March 8-9 round at Athlone Stadium.

Uganda, who reached the seventh-place playoff, lost to Czechia, while Belgium finished round one in ninth place.

In the first leg, Kenya triumphed over hosts South Africa in the semi-finals before securing a 17-12 victory over Argentina in the final.

The team will rely on the standout form of key squad members who played a pivotal role in their victory.

Captain Grace Okulu, who scored a total of four tries, including three in the opening game against Samoa, is expected to lead the charge once again for David Mwanja’s coached side.

The four men’s and women’s teams with the highest cumulative points across the three rounds will qualify for the HSBC SVNS Playoffs in Los Angeles on May 3-4, where they will face the bottom four ranked teams from the 2025 HSBC SVNS in a high-stakes promotion and relegation tournament, with four coveted spots in the 2025-26 World Rugby Sevens Series up for grabs.
