The FIFA Council have confirm financial changes for the 2026 World Cup, the first edition to feature 48 teams. With tournament set to be hosted across North America, FIFA increasing its funding allocations to ensure every participating nation can prepare adequately for the expanded competition.
FIFA had raised funding from USD 1.5 million to USD 2.5 million per team, an increase of USD 1 million for preparations and qualification money has increased from USD 9 million to USD 10 million, also an increase of USD 1 million. Delegation subsidies and ticketing allocations are over USD 16 million in support, contributing a total of USD 871 million, representing a 15% increase compared to the last edition.
The additional preparation and qualification money will help boost federations’ investments in training camps, logistics and player welfare areas that have strained for a long time.
