Human activities along the Kerio Valley Esccarpment have been pinpointed as the main contributors to the regular landslides and mudslides that have been causing heavy destruction in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Local leaders who are anxious about the situation are now urging the government to come with the relocation of residents in risky areas and thereby save lives from further being lost.

It is a case of the community Chesongoch being overwhelmed by sorrow and not knowing what to expect, with the official number of people that died in the landslide standing at 36. The search and rescue team on Friday seventh day of the operation still looking for sixteen people.

The multi-agency rescue team who are also local volunteers are, with heavy hearts, unceasingly plowing through the mud and debris in the hope of finding and retrieving the missing bodies.

Another local resident, Rehema Kimore, has made a desperate plea for help after her house was completely wrecked by the mudslide, which made her family ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌homeless.
