The United Kingdom has appointed Kate Osamor as the country’s new Trade Envoy to Kenya.

In the announcement, the UK said the Labour and Co-op Member of Parliament for Edmonton and Winchmore Hill will be working to identify trade and investment opportunities between the UK and Kenya to drive growth and create jobs.

Osamor’s mandate will extend to the larger East Africa region, covering Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.

Speaking after her appointment, Osamor said:

“I am thrilled to announce my appointment as the Government's Trade Envoy to East Africa. I look forward to working closely with our partners in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda to strengthen our ties. Together, we can enhance trade, foster collaboration, and create opportunities for shared prosperity.”

The role is voluntary and unpaid. She will be joining 32 UK Trade Envoys covering 79 markets across six continents.

Notably, the United Kingdom said the trade in goods and services between the UK and Kenya was over KSh 320 billion in the four quarters to the end of 2024 which is an increase of 8% compared to the same period in 2023.
