Moses Kuria has dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s newly launched political outfit — the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) — mockingly rebranding it as the “District Commissioners Party.”

In a thinly veiled attack shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account shortly after the official unveiling of DCP in Lavington, Nairobi, Kuria sarcastically implied the party is outdated, rigid, and centrally controlled, much like the provincial administration system under the old government structure.

“Welcome to the District Commissioners Party,” Kuria wrote, sparking political debate across the Mount Kenya region and beyond.

The jab appeared to be a direct critique of Gachagua’s leadership style, which critics often describe as authoritarian and hierarchical.

The comment also comes amid growing political rivalry between Kuria and Gachagua, who are both eyeing dominance in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region.

Gachagua on Thursday unveiling its logo, party colours, and interim officials, while insisting the party would be people-centred, inclusive, and democratic.

“This party belongs to all Kenyans. We believe in Let the People Decide. There will be no direct nominations,” Gachagua said during the launch.

The DCP party colours are neon green, brown, and white, with a logo depicting a hand touching an ear — symbolising the party’s slogan “Kazi na Haki” (Work and Justice) and its commitment to listening to the people.
