Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Sunday outlined a series of major infrastructure and economic projects being implemented by the government to spur growth and transform Mombasa County into a modern economic hub.

Speaking during a resource mobilization event for small businesses in Nyali Constituency, Kindiki said the dualing of key highways, expansion of the port, and ongoing blue economy projects were clear indicators of the government’s commitment to revitalizing the coastal economy.

“The dualing of the Nyali–Mtwapa–Kilifi Road, the Changamwe–Jomvu–Mazeras–Mariakani highway, and the completion of the Dongo Kundu by-pass are among the landmark projects aimed at transforming Mombasa, the gateway of Kenya,” Kindiki said.

He added that the KSh 78 million Likoni Fish Market and the KSh 175 million Kidongo Fish Landing Site are nearing completion, marking a major boost for the blue economy and livelihoods of local fishermen.

The Deputy President also highlighted the KSh 6 billion Nyali Affordable Housing Project and the construction of new markets in Jomvu, Sega, and Changamwe as part of efforts to create dignified business spaces for small-scale traders.

In addition, he revealed that the KSh 41 billion Mombasa Port Expansion and Modernization Project will commence within the next two to three months, further cementing the city’s position as a key regional trade hub.

Kindiki commended Mombasa residents for leading the nation in the registration of the Taifa Care Universal Health Insurance program, with nearly 900,000 out of 1.1 million residents—about 75% of the population—already enrolled.

“I applaud the County Government of Mombasa and its people for achieving the highest registration numbers into Taifa Care. This is a remarkable demonstration of community responsibility and partnership in advancing universal healthcare,” he said.
