Tanzanian musician Marioo has set social media ablaze after an expose that some popular celebrities at one point directed his girlfriend, Paula Kajala, to abort their child. In an open and emotional confession shared online, the record-breaking artist accused some of his popular industry peers and influential public figures of trying to destroy his family before it was even formed.
From Marioo, when Paula was pregnant, numerous “Wajuaaji” (know-it-alls) went to visit her, telling her to terminate the baby that it would ruin their career and image. But Paula, he asserted, shut an eye to the pressure and instead opted to embrace motherhood and stick with him.
“Kipindi mpenzi wangu ana ujauzito walitokea Wajuaaji wengi na kumshawishi atoe mimba… Nashukuru mpenzi wangu hakuweza kufanya hivyo,” Marioo posted, appreciating his wife for not following the poisonous counsel.
The singer went on to explain that the majority of those who caused disturbances were familiar faces, including artists, socialites, and even politicians, individuals known and celebrated by the public. He never named names but hinted at some of them still feigning to be his friends on the internet without revealing the fact that they are secretly trying to give him trouble.
Marioo also warned that he’s ready to unveil those individuals if they continue to intervene in his family or try to reach his wife.
“Naenda kuwa na tabia ya kuwataja hadharani wote mnaonitafuta kwa kisingizio cha kumuwasha mke wangu mjamzito,” he threatened, meaning that he won’t allow anyone to disrespect Paula.
His message stirred reactions in Tanzania and beyond, with supporters and fellow artists using social media to rally behind him. Some lauded Marioo for speaking out against Paula and remaining firm regarding hypocrisy in the entertainment industry, while others urged him to take it to the next level and name the perpetrators.
The two, who welcomed their first child this year, have emerged as Tanzania’s most admired celebrity family.
