Medical services in Kiambu County are on the edge of total collapse as doctors, led by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), prepare for a mass shutdown and protest march on Thursday.

This comes amid an escalating deadloc that has now dragged on for nearly two months, leaving hospitals incapacitated and patients stranded.

At the heart of the crisis is what union leaders describe as a catastrophic breakdown in the county’s healthcare system one that’s pushed doctors to the edge and patients into peril.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday evening, KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah issued a passionate and urgent call to action, announcing that healthcare workers will gather at 10 a.m. at Kiambu Level V Hospital before marching to the County Assembly and Governor’s office.

“This is not just about paycheques,” Dr. Atellah said. “This is a fight for life, dignity, and justice. Our hospitals are running on empty no doctors, no drugs, no direction.”
