President William Ruto has undertaken to ensure that no forceful evictions will be carried out until affected families are provided with alternatives.

Ruto, who Friday interacted with the residents and traders of Ruai underpass, Chokaa, Kayole Junction and Njiru Stage, Nairobi, said the government was aware of the land disputes in many parts of the country, including Nairobi County.

He added that plans were at an advanced stage to address the major land disputes where owners are seeking eviction orders.

“The government is aware of land disputes in many parts of the country, including Nairobi County. As we seek to resolve these challenges, no eviction will be carried out until the affected families are provided with alternatives,” a statement shared by Ruto.

This follows fears over the looming eviction of thousands of families in Njiru, who face displacement from 1,000 acres of land after the Environment and Lands Court ruled that the contested property belongs to the Kirima family.

But the family assured last year that it had agreed to sell the parcels of land to the current occupants.

“For the sake of clarity and avoidance of doubt, the Kirima family is ready to sell the land to the current occupants on a willing-buyer, willing-seller arrangement. Such an action will enable the issuance of legitimate title deeds to those who have not yet bought their parcels or made a commitment to do so,” the family said last year after the court case.

Last year, several families in Nyama villa estate in Kayole were rendered homeless after their homes were demolished after the owner of the land and the occupants failed to settle the land issue out of court.

The President who is on a development tour of the Nairobi county since Monday officially opened the Njiru Mixed Day Secondary School’s Tuition Block where we pledged to build 10 more classrooms.
