The Kenyan government has rolled out Mpox vaccinations to tackle the rising number of cases across the country.

The Ministry of Health announced the arrival of 10,700 doses of the MVA-BN vaccine, aimed at stopping the spread of the virus.

The vaccine, known for its safety and effectiveness, will be given to people at high risk—like healthcare workers, long-distance truck drivers, sex workers, and anyone who’s been in close contact with confirmed cases.

Vaccination will begin in counties already reporting infections, including Busia, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Nairobi.

Since July 2024, Kenya has confirmed 67 Mpox cases in 13 counties, with one death reported. A sharp rise in recent cases has doubled the disease burden, prompting this urgent response.

Alongside the vaccine, other efforts are ongoing—like contact tracing, testing, and community education. The Ministry is also monitoring 26 entry points to help catch any new cases early.

Health officials are reminding everyone to stay safe: avoid close contact with infected individuals, practice good hygiene, and seek medical help if symptoms appear.
