Kenya has reached a significant milestone in rugby medical training with Dr. Jimmy Ondiege becoming the country’s first-ever accredited Rugby Medical Trainer.
Ondiege successfully completed the intensive Trainer Course held at Loftus Park, Pretoria, from January 22 to 25.
The course, part of the World Rugby and Rugby Africa Training & Education (T&E) program, aimed at developing trainers across various disciplines, including medical, coaching, and strength & conditioning (S&C).
With this accreditation, Ondiege joins an exclusive group of only three accredited Medical Trainers in the region, the other two being based in Uganda.
Kenya had two representatives in the program: Dr. Ondiege (Medical Trainer) and Richard Ochieng (Strength & Conditioning Trainer).
This accreditation is a significant boost to Kenya’s rugby development, enhancing expertise in player welfare and high-performance training.
It also marks an important step forward in advancing medical support and ensuring athlete safety within the country’s rugby scene.
