Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai, today met a delegation from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and Oxford University to discuss cancer data access, sharing, and sustainable funding for Kenyaโs Population-Based Cancer Registries.
The talks also explored Kenyaโs potential role in hosting the 2027 World Leaders Cancer Summit.
The delegation was led by Prof. Freddy Bray, Director of the Cancer Surveillance Unit at IARC, alongside Prof. Max Parkin and Biying Liu from Oxford Universityโs African Cancer Registries Network (AFCRN).
Also in attendance were Dr. Elias Melly, CEO of the National Cancer Institute of Kenya, Ms. Gladys Chesumbai, Head of the National Cancer Registry, and Ms. Ann Korir, Head of the Nairobi Cancer Registry.
Kenya, recently ranked by WHO as Africaโs leader in breast cancer prevention and control, has been designated as a regional center of excellence for cancer registration training.
The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening data-driven cancer control efforts through collaboration and research.
