The government has increased funding for development projects in Laikipia County in line with its inclusive development strategy that seeks to ensure no region or community is left out.

During a tour on road project under construction between Sipili and Ol Moran in Laikipia North Constituency, President William Samoei Ruto announced that the government is planning to put up KSh4 billion for the construction of the much-anticipated 60-kilometre Nanyuki-Doldol road, with the construction expected to start very soon.

“We continue to connect the country through road development, especially in the parts of Kenya that have for long been left out and marginalised. These roads are linking farmers to markets and industries.” he said

The President highlighted that the government is engaged in building a total of 217 kilometres of roads across Laikipia County to improve connectivity, increase the level of trade, and facilitate the opening up of the most disadvantaged areas for economic activities.

He explained that the road construction projects would not only help farmers in transportation but also facilitate the movement of goods and services, besides connecting local communities to the markets and industries.

Besides this, the government is constructing five new schools in Laikipia North to increase access to education, with the allocation of KSh60 million capital.

Furthermore, President Ruto revealed that the government through the Affordable Housing Programme is ploughing in KSh15 billion towards housing projects in the county.

Also, the project entails building 13 contemporary markets that intended to create business opportunities and enhance people’s living standards.

The President noted that the infrastructure development and construction of houses being implemented at present, are making the country change visibly and stated again the Cabinet’s resolution to ensure development is spread evenly throughout the country.

He also inspected the development status of the Sipili-Ol Moran road and referred to it as a significant infrastructure project which, among other things, will aid in unleashing the economic potential of Laikipia County and the neighboring areas.
