Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Nyamira County Assembly Deputy Clerk and Director of Finance and Accounts, Leonard Kevin Nyamasege, for alleged procurement irregularities in the construction of an office block at the County Assembly.

The arrest came after the inquiries into the alleged irregular award of the tender to Jetta Builders Ltd even though the company was reportedly not the lowest evaluated bidder.

In a statement, EACC explained that the irregular award led to an alleged improper financial benefit amounting to KSh30.18 million to the contractor.

The anti-corruption commission revealed that after completing the investigations, they sent the inquiry file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who gave the green light to the prosecution of Nyamasege and five other suspects.

The cited suspects are to be charged with, amongst other things, abuse of office, willful failure to comply with laws about the management of public funds, and negligence of official duty.

Nyamasege was taken into custody on 30 June 2026 and brought before Hon. Christabel Agutu at the Nyamira Law Courts. But the pleading was postponed after his lawyer told the court that he had got the order from the High Court in Kisumu to stay the arrest and arraignment until the hearing and determination of the petition that had been filed before the court.

EACC said that the orders hadn’t been served on the Commission, and the case was to be mentioned on 28 July 2026 for further directions.

This arrest comes a few weeks after the first arrest of Nyamira County Assembly Clerk, Duke Simeon Onyari, on 3 June 2026 about the same case.
