Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has revealed that several roads in Nairobi will be renamed in honor of legendary Kenyan artists.
Speaking at this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi on Thursday, Sakaja announced that the late E-Sir, considered one of the region’s most influential and iconic rappers, will have a road named after him in the South C neighborhood.
“We shall be honouring our artists by renaming some of the roads… One of the roads in South C will be re-named after the great hero E-Sir,” Sakaja said.
E-Sir, whose real name was Issah Mmari, tragically passed away in a road accident in 2003. In 2022, renowned musician Nameless launched a petition urging Governor Sakaja to honor E-Sir by naming a road or street in South C after the late rap icon.
Nameless, who was with E-Sir at the time of the fatal accident, started the petition online, which quickly gathered thousands of signatures. E-Sir, known for hits like Leo Ni Leo and Moss Moss, is credited with transforming the Kenyan music scene with his timeless tracks, which continue to resonate with listeners long after his passing.
