President William Ruto has honored several Kenyans, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, with presidential recognitions for their exceptional contributions to the country as Kenya celebrates 61 years of independence. The award ceremony, held at State House in Nairobi on Sunday, saw the Head of State bestow state awards on individuals from various sectors, including security, medicine, and the arts, in recognition of their dedication and achievements.

Among the prominent recipients was actress, producer, and television host Sarah Hassan, who received the prestigious Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) for her significant role in advancing Kenya’s film and entertainment industry on the global stage. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja was awarded the Moran Elder of the Golden Heart (MGH) for his outstanding leadership in critical security operations across the country.

Other notable recipients included Molo Member of Parliament Kuria Kimani, who was awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for his exceptional work as a legislator and chair of the National Assembly’s Finance and Planning Committee. Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was recognized with the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) for her steadfast commitment to the rule of law and her work in advancing justice for vulnerable groups.

Additionally, Purity Muthoni Ngina, Kenya’s youngest PhD holder in mathematics and the youngest CEO of a constitutional body, was honored with the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS). Bob Monroe, founder of the Mathare Youth Sports Association, was also recognized with the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for his contribution to Kenyan football development.

The late Makadara Law Courts Magistrate Monica Njeri, who tragically lost her life in the line of duty, was posthumously awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) for her dedicated service in advancing justice, particularly in cases related to gender-based violence.

Other recipients included military personnel and public servants such as Margret Kikechi (KDF) and Paralympian Kandie, who were awarded the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) and Head of State Commendation (HSC) respectively, along with Wilson Lemikut, who also received the Head of State Commendation (HSC). The ceremony celebrated a wide range of individuals whose efforts continue to shape Kenya’s development across multiple fields.
